The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has affected millions of people worldwide and is the leading cause of mortality in Brazil in 2020 as well as early 2021. Clinical manifestations of COVID-19 disease range from no symptoms and mild flu-like symptoms to severe cases leading to hospitalization and death.
Among patients with uncomplicated appendicitis, antibiotic treatment did not meet a prespecified level of effectiveness compared with appendectomy, although most patients who received antibiotic therapy did not require an appendectomy, and for those who did, they did not experience significant complications, according to a study in the June 16 issue of JAMA.
Over the past 20 years, many studies have investigated the effects of acute aerobic exercise on cognitive performance. In recent years, meta-analyses of data from these previous research studies have demonstrated that these a single bout of moderate aerobic exercise temporarily improves cognitive performance.
The 12th ECCO Congress that took place in Barcelona, Spain, from 15 to 18 February 2017, was an excellent opportunity for Vifor Pharma to continue its support of healthcare efforts and to highlight the detrimental impact of iron deficiency, a particularly common condition in people with certain chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
