Professor John Wattis and Professor Steven Curran, of the University of Huddersfield, have published the latest edition of this key text on psychiatric conditions in old age.
Omega-3 fatty acids, combined with two blood-thinning drugs, significantly changed the blood-clotting process and may reduce the risk of heart attacks in patients with stents in their heart arteries, according to research reported in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology: Journal of the American Heart Association.
A Phase 1 clinical trial examining whether a topical cream can enhance the immune response conferred by a "pre-pandemic" influenza vaccine is underway at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Brain cancer patients with the poorest prognosis - those with a type of deadly tumor known as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) - may survive longer with a drug that chokes off a tumor's blood supply.
"At present, it can take up to a year before a patient is diagnosed with SLE. This is because the symptoms are diffuse and are often mistaken for other diseases. However, with this blood-based test, it is possible to determine quickly whether someone has the disease or not", says Christer Wingren, associate professor in Immunotechnology at CREATE Health, Lund University.
