A new study by Canadian researchers says that clogged arteries show up in children, and fatty diets and a lack of exercise are setting children up for heart problems later on in life.
For the first time, the United States Department of Defense has awarded a grant to researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine to study binge eating disorder treatments in veterans and active duty military.
Obesity rates in North America are a growing concern for legislators. Expanded waistlines mean rising health-care costs for maladies such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. One University of Alberta researcher says that if people do not take measures to get healthy, they may find that governments will throw their weight into administrative measures designed to help us trim the fat.
In the state of Texas, 59 percent of our child care operations are located in home-based environments, yet state and local quality improvement programs often overlook this important group. The Children's Learning Institute at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), in partnership with Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Early Learning Council, has taken a step forward in addressing the quality of these operations by offering free training for up to 300 home-based child care providers in the state.
Experts from the V. I. Kulakov Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have devised a method that uses the urinary proteome to diagnose conditions in newborn babies.
