Consumer Watchdog has called on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to withdraw weak pseudo-reforms of the health insurance industry that would bar strong regulation of health insurers. Schwarzenegger sent his proposals this month to lawmakers who are seeking stronger state regulation modeled on the successful market reforms of auto and homeowner insurance under Proposition 103, demanding that they substitute his legislation for their bills.
CEVEC Pharmaceuticals, the German developer of a novel, market leading human protein expression system derived from amniocytes, and Catalent Pharma Solutions, a leading global drug development and delivery solutions provider, announced today a joint commercial cell line development service for pharma and biotech customers worldwide. The offering combines the benefits of CEVEC's human cell line, CAP-Technology, with Catalent's unique GPEx® (Gene Product Expression) Technology to generate high expressing stable human cell lines in a much shorter timeframe than traditional methods.
The idea of fighting infections and even cancers by inducing protective immune responses may now be a step closer to clinical practice. Researchers have removed a major obstacle to widespread use of so-called adoptive transfer therapy, in which a patient receives "killer" immune cells targeting a disease agent. Existing technologies can easily provide T cells that will recognize a specific antigen, but it has been challenging to identify individual cells most likely to succeed in fighting the disease - until now.
Two years ago, Rachel Greenberg went out to run a few errands. While she was gone, her husband Glenn suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. He was immediately taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where physicians explained he had suffered the worst kind of brain bleed.
The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Pittcon Organizing Committee are pleased to announce that Jane Chan was named president for Pittcon 2020. Jane has been a member of the SSP and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) since 1980, and has served and been chair on numerous committees in these two societies.
