Today, the Building Trades National Medical Screening Program (BTMed) and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) expanded their early lung cancer detection program (ELCD) for high risk construction workers in Western Washington.
A team of scientists recently carried out a study on the transmissibility of the virus in households. Simply put, they're trying to predict how the virus spreads in a typical family: if one person gets sick, how many others get sick? How sick? How long would it take the family to recover? These are the practical questions this study tries to answer.
Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, studied the body weight changes of a longitudinal cohort during the initial SIP (shelter-in-place) orders to better understand the possible downstream health implications of a prolonged SIP. They found a significant increase in body weight over the post-SIP period at a rate of roughly a pound and a half weight gain per month following SIP.
Beyond the physical dangers of COVID-19, the pandemic has wreaked havoc mentally and emotionally. A new study suggests the pandemic may have had a greater impact on the mental health of women with a history of childhood abuse or intimate partner violence (IPV) than with women without such histories.
Conveying how well a therapy works and doing so in understandable terms isn't easy, but a group of physicians is trying to change that The Wall Street Journal's Health Blog reports.
