People with type 2 diabetes can make insulin but their bodies use it so poorly that glucose levels run amok. It's been difficult for scientists to understand what's going awry in the way that tiny, fast-moving proteins signal and regulate glucose metabolism. During a meeting with UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe on Tuesday, Indonesia Minister of Health Nafsiah Mboi "pledged to scale up HIV testing and treatment programs" with a "focus on 141 districts where key affected populations are the highest," a UNAIDS feature story reports.
A team of researchers from Vanderbilt University's schools of Law, Medicine and Management has received a five-year research grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality of the Department of Health and Human Services to develop and test "safe harbor" standards of care based on scientific evidence.
