Researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) have announced the discovery of a gene that plays a significant role in memory performance in humans.
Researchers from University of South Florida College of Medicine found a combination of antibiotics to be an effective treatment for Chlamydia-induced reactive arthritis, a major step forward in the management, and possibly cure, of this disease. Results of this study are published in the May issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism, a journal of the American College of Rheumatology.
Cornerstone Real Estate Funds, and its strategic alliance partner and sub-advisor Servant Healthcare Investments, announced that the Cornerstone Healthcare Plus REIT has acquired Carriage Court of Hilliard - a 70,000 square foot assisted living and memory care facility located in Hilliard, OH. The $17.5 million property has a total of 102 units of which 64 are dedicated to assisted living and 38 are focused on memory care.
The biggest hurdle to finding effective therapies for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) – a life-threatening condition in which the lungs become scarred and breathing is increasingly difficult – has been the inability to fully model the disease in animals, limiting the ability to observe and understand the disease.
An orthopedic surgeon is creating the world's first implantation device that can lengthen the bones of young children internally. The inventor, a physician at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, expects the device will lead to fewer infections and less pain, making the bone-lengthening process more bearable for children.
