Higher doses of Vitamin D may be most beneficial in reducing bone fractures in older adults

Based on the results of a pooled analysis of 11 unrelated randomized clinical trials investigating vitamin D supplementation and fracture risk in more than 31,000 older adults, Bess Dawson-Hughes, MD, director of the Bone Metabolism Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University, says higher doses of Vitamin D may be the most beneficial in reducing bone fractures in this age group.

Results of the Phase II SEPIA-ACS1/ TIMI-42 study presented at the plenary session of the Annual European Society of Cardiology

Sanofi-aventis (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY) announced today that the investigational anti-Xa intravenous anticoagulant otamixaban reduced by 27 to 42 percent the odds of the composite primary endpoint of death, myocardial infarction, urgent revascularization or rescue GPIIb/IIIa use in 4 out of the 5 otamixaban tested doses, versus standard UFH/eptifibatide combination in [non-ST] ACS patients suitable for invasive strategy.

New strategy may lead to more accurate breast cancer diagnoses
