South African President Jacob Zuma on Sunday appointed physician Aaron Motsoaledi as health minister, replacing Health Minister Barbara Hogan, who was appointed to a public enterprises position, London's Guardian reports. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University have developed what could be a promising new test to help determine the aggressiveness of prostate cancer, says a Bay Area urologist who specializes in treating the disease, although patients may not realize any benefits for another decade or longer.
Furiex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today confirmed that Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited has received pricing approval for NESINA® (alogliptin) in Japan. NESINA, a highly selective DPP-4 inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, received regulatory approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on April 16, 2010. Furiex collaborated with Takeda to develop this product.
New research suggests testing people's memory over four weeks could identify who is at higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease before it has developed.
