Pall Corporation, a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, has introduced its next generation 96-well filter plate that delivers consistency and reproducibility in applications, such as neonatal screening and multiplexing. The Pall AcroPrep Advance filter plate employs new design features that provide uniform filtration rates, lowers hold-up volumes and ensures consistent sample/bead recovery from the wells.
Since its implementation in 2009, the National Australian Hand Hygiene Initiative has seen significant, sustained improvements in hand hygiene compliance among Australian healthcare workers, and reduced risks of potentially fatal healthcare-associated Staphylococcus aureus infection, according to new research being presented at this year's European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases in Amsterdam, Netherlands (13-16 April), and published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
Laurent Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced today positive topline results from a Phase 1b clinical trial with LAU-7b in adult CF patients. LAU-7b is a novel oral formulation of fenretinide, a synthetic retinoid investigated for its lipid modulating properties and potential to address the aberrant inflammatory response in CF.
Depression increases the risk of death in patients who have a coronary stent implanted. After seven years of follow up, depressed patients were 1.5 times more likely to have died than non-depressed patients. The findings were independent of age, gender, clinical characteristics, anxiety and the distressed (Type D) personality.
In the first study to show that lifelong exercise decreases cellular aging in the brain, scientists from the McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida say that moderately active rats have healthier DNA and more robust brain cells than their less active counterparts. The research was presented at the Society for Neuroscience's 35th annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
