Milvia Lopez, by her attorney MICHAEL STEWART FRANKEL, of New York City, recently filed suit, in Supreme Court, New York County, bearing Index # 112888/2009. The complaint alleges that while Ms. Lopez underwent a routine transesophageal echocardiogram ("TEE") at ST. VINCENT'S HOSPITAL, doctors used an HIV infected scope exposing her to HIV.
Syneron Medical Ltd., a leading global aesthetic device company, announced today that it will host an investor meeting on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at approximately 10:00 am to 1:00 pm ET in New York City. The meeting will highlight Syneron's opportunity in the fast growing body contouring and fat treatment market, with a focus on the UltraShape system, which received FDA clearance for fat cell destruction in April 2014.
"A few nonprofit groups have recently announced plans to wind down, not over financial problems but because their missions are nearly finished," the New York Times reports, noting that though the number of organizations closing shop "for mission-related reasons is too small to call a trend. ... the novelty of organizations going out of business once their work is done has attracted attention."
A study published online on Friday, October 4, in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that deep brain stimulation (DBS) of an area in the brain called the subcallosal cingulate (SCC) provides a robust antidepressant effect that is sustained over a long period of time in patients with treatment-resistant depression-the most severely depressed patients who have not responded to other treatments.
In an article published recently in Microgravity, a Nature Journal, researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute demonstrate a unique method for studying the mechanisms behind the formation of amyloid fibrils associated with diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
