A new book about Virginia Mason's journey to transform health care has received the 2014 Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award, becoming the second volume about the health system to earn this prize.
Research to be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior (SSIB), the foremost society for research into all aspects of eating and drinking behavior, finds that prolonged exposure to a high fat diet is correlated with changes in the brain chemical dopamine within the striatum, a critical component of the brain's reward system. The authors measured 'real-time' changes in dopamine levels after rats consumed a high fat diet for either 2 or 6 weeks.
The COVID-19 pandemic was predicted to and has had a major impact on the essential HIV health services in the South East Asia Region (SEAR), putting at risk the benefits accrued over the last two decades. Apart from the risks posed by the virus to the individual health of people living with HIV (PLHIV), COVID-19 has disrupted essential services causing considerable delays in the delivery of medicines and other health commodities.
The 8 December will see the first step in an East Midlands wide approach to supporting people with mental health illness back in to work or education. The East Midlands Academic Health Science Network is championing and extending a widely proven scheme called Individual Placement and Support (IPS) across the region.
