Stress at work is an important risk factor for the development of heart disease and diabetes, finds a study published online by the British Medical Journal.
Seventy-four percent of those enrolled in the Federal Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) oppose a new effort by Congress to change the program's prescription drug benefits, according to a new poll released by the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association.
Clinical results from a Phase IIb study showed that MK-4305, Merck's investigational dual orexin receptor antagonist, was significantly more effective than placebo (p<0.005) in improving overall sleep efficiency at night one and at the end of week four in patients with primary insomnia. MK-4305 was generally well-tolerated in the study. Orexins are neuropeptides (chemical messengers) that are released by specialized neurons in the hypothalamus region of the brain and are believed to be an important regulator of the brain's sleep-wake process.
An international study suggests other aspects of the diet may not offset the harmful effect of sodium on blood pressure. The study, published in the American Heart Association's journal Hypertension, also reaffirms the need for widespread sodium reduction in the food supply.
Is your brain important to you? Do you know how to keep it healthy? According to a recent survey conducted by Reader's Digest in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, 91 percent of people believe they can reduce their risk of cognitive decline, but they have misconceptions about ways to keep their brains healthy.
