Connecticut has sent a strong message to young people that indoor tanning salons can be dangerous to their health by passing a law that bans minors under the age of 17 years old from using indoor tanning devices. The law is based on significant scientific evidence that links indoor tanning to increased risk of developing melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
A team of researchers from the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer of the Universit- de Montr-al have defined for the first time the mechanism behind three cancer-causing genes in acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Published in the journal Genes and Development, the findings offer insight on the complex interaction between the genes and their contributions to leukemia, thereby providing the foundation for the design of targeted therapies.
Thirty-five percent of the 2,000 to 2,500 new HIV infections in Spain last year occurred among immigrants, Daniel Zulaika, president of the AIDS Interdisciplinary Society of Spain, said Wednesday at the XI National Congress on AIDS in Cordoba, Spain's El Pais reports.
