Laserscope announced today that it has been issued an important U.S. patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) relating to the use of its Photoselective Vaporization (PV) method and technology for therapeutic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and other tissues in the human body.
Spanish researchers have identified a gene whose expression level strongly predicts how well certain lung cancer patients will respond to treatment with the drug erlotinib.
A team of researchers led by faculty at the University of Georgia has identified a number of biological markers that make it possible to classify mental disorders with greater precision. Their findings, published today in the American Journal of Psychiatry, may one day lead to improved diagnostics and treatments for those suffering from mental illness.
Given Imaging Ltd. today announced a new study showing that PillCam® ESO accurately identifies and allows the physician to classify high-risk emergency room patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), leading to rapid therapeutic intervention.
"A Saudi man infected with a deadly new virus from the same family as SARS has died, becoming the ninth patient in the world to be killed by the disease which has so far infected 15, the World Health Organization said on Tuesday," Reuters reports.
