Curemark, a drug research and development company that focuses on the treatment of neurological diseases, has retained Rubenstein Public Relations to help raise national, regional, and industry awareness of the organization's research, treatments and founder, Dr. Joan Fallon. Curemark is developing an autism treatment that will be one of the first to address the underlying physiology of autism.
Findings from Boston University School of Medicine, which appear in eLife, provide a possible explanation as to why most people who are obese develop insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Over the past 15 years, more than 330,000 U.S. soldiers have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). It is one of the leading causes of death and disability connected to the country's recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Many of these patients were evacuated by air from these countries to Europe and the U.S. for further treatment. In general, these patients were flown quickly to hospitals outside the battle zone, where more extensive treatment was available.
Cancer researchers have known for well over a century that different tumor types spread only to specific, preferred organs. But no one has been able to determine the mechanisms of organ specific metastasis, the so-called "soil and seed" theory of 1889. New details that could help shed light on this hypothesis have been provided by a team of researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and their collaborators, proposing a new mechanism controlling cancer metastasis that offers fresh diagnostic and treatment potential.
The mold that spread like a rash across post-Katrina New Orleans did more than destroy homes - it made children with asthma sick. On the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, experts point to increased sensitivities to environmental asthma triggers as a risk for more severe asthma symptoms and attacks in hundreds of New Orleans children.
