Fenwal, Inc., a global medical technology company focused on improving blood collection, separation, safety and availability, announced today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Fenwal 510(k) clearance to market its ALYX™ component collection system with new wireless data export capabilities.
Adolescents and young adults living in rural versus metropolitan U.S. counties and those living farther from the hospital where they were diagnosed are more likely to be detected at a later cancer stage, when it is generally less treatable and have lower survival rates compared with those living in metropolitan counties and closer to the reporting hospital, finds a new study from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) released five cancer research requests for applications (RFA) just three months after receiving its first funding. In May, 2009, the 81st Legislature appropriated $450 million dollars in bond proceeds for the next two years for CPRIT to fund cancer research and prevention grants that will expedite innovation in cancer treatment and expand cancer prevention services in the state.
Bed rest may not be the best option for preventing preterm labor and may even cause harm to the mother and baby, according to an integrative literature review in a special issue on "Women's Health Across the Lifespan" in Biological Research for Nursing (published by SAGE).
