Patients of the Mainz University Medical Center with heart valve disease have recently been able to benefit from a new treatment option for a narrowed aortic valve.
Three London scientists are receiving new funding from the Canadian Cancer Society for their work in innovative cancer research.
Hispanics adults hospitalized for treatment of symptoms of peripheral artery disease (PAD) were more likely to access this care by going to the emergency room (ER), and they experienced longer and more expensive hospitalizations than non-Hispanic white patients with PAD, according to preliminary research to be presented at the American Heart Association's Quality of Care and Outcomes (QCOR) Research Scientific Sessions 2021.
Artificial intelligence could be used in future to help guide when to use mechanical ventilation and the likelihood of complications in ventilation of patients. This is according to the first systematic review of studies in this area, led by clinicians at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
Scientists have examined a protein that will find application in optogenetics and could be used to control muscle and neuronal cells. The paper on the light-sensitive NsXeR protein of the xenorhodopsin class was published in Science Advances by the international team of researchers from MIPT, Research center Jülich, and Institut de Biologie Structurale.
