TriHealth and Select Medical today announced they have completed an agreement to jointly operate a new 60-bed, acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital in 2016 in Keystone Park, along Interstate 71 and Dana Avenue.

Penicillamine challenge ineffective for detecting Wilson's disease in asymptomatic children

An Italian research team confirmed that the scoring system for Wilson's disease (WD) provides good diagnostic accuracy with 93% positive and 92% negative predictive values, respectively in children with mild liver disease. In asymptomatic children, a urinary copper excretion above 40 μg/24 hours was suggestive of WD, however the penicillamine challenge test (PCT) did not provide an accurate diagnosis in this patient subset.

Facial color influences early stage of subliminal processing of facial expression

Facial color is suggestive of emotional states, as in the phrases: "flushed with anger" and "pale with fear." Although some behavioral studies have investigated the effects of facial color on expression, there is limited neurophysiological evidence showing the effects of facial color on emotional expression perception.

New findings may aid in developing medications for atherosclerosis and insulin resistance

Scientists from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) recently presented preliminary research findings that identify a specific gene as a potential new target for treating obesity-related diseases.

Inflammation may accentuate age-related bladder function decline

Age-associated biochemical changes in the bladder may accentuate the inflammation associated with overactive bladder, study findings indicate.
