A study in the Jan. 1 issue of the journal Sleep demonstrates that the frequent arousals from sleep that occur in heart failure patients with central sleep apnea (CSA) may reflect the presence of another underlying arousal disorder rather than being a defensive mechanism to terminate apneas.
Hookah waterpipe use has grown in popularity in recent years – 1 in 5 college students in the U.S. and Europe have tried it – but the practice could be more dangerous than other forms of smoking, according to a first-of-its-kind study by researchers at the University of California, Irvine, published recently in Aerosol Science and Technology.
Sinapis Pharma is pleased to announce that it has received notice from the FDA that its Investigational New Drug application (IND) for the use of IV methamphetamine for acute stroke was approved on April 9, 2010. "We have accomplished a great deal of work for a small company on a very tight budget. We have GMP drug ready for the Phase I clinical trial and the Phase I site is prepared to begin this protocol," said Dr. Donald Picker , the company CEO.
Research conducted by scientists at the Cancer Institute has revealed that drinking two units of alcohol on a daily basis significantly increases the risks of developing breast, bowel, throat and mouth cancer.
The HIV protease inhibitor, Nelfinavir, can be used to treat HER2-positive breast cancer in the same capacity and dosage regimen that it is used to treat HIV, according to a study published October 5 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
