"The endorsement of voluntary guidelines to improve the way countries govern access rights to land, fisheries and forest resources by the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) on Friday marks a historic milestone not only for the way in which land tenure is managed, but also for international consensus-building," Jose Graziano da Silva, director-general of the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), writes in this post in the Guardian's "Poverty Matters" blog.
When Jose Palacios arrived to the operating room at NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn last March, he thought he might never walk again. The infection in his foot had gotten so bad his doctor told him amputation may be necessary. But when the surgery was over, he could hardly believe his eyes.
Mersana Therapeutics today announced the initiation of a Phase 1b extension study with its lead cancer product, XMT-1001, a novel DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor based on the company's Fleximer® polymer conjugate platform, in second-line gastric cancer and second-/third-line non-small cell lung cancer. The study will be carried out in 10 clinical centers in the US.
Since the beginning of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, there have been nearly 36,000 battle- injured warriors, of which approximately 82 percent suffer extremity trauma. Many of these injuries are complicated by the effects of improvised explosive devices which cause injury patterns distinct from civilian trauma. Traditional wound-management guidelines simply fall short.
