The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology are calling on doctors to enroll more patients in clinical trials for catheter-based closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO), a condition caused when an opening between the two chambers of the heart fails to close at birth.
OptumHealth today announced that it will offer an unlimited lifetime benefit for specific coverage as a standard provision of its excess loss insurance policy.
Resverlogix Corp. today announced that it has completed a collaborative research program with Emerald Logic, a leader in quantitative analytics. Using Fast Collective Evolution Technology (FACET), Emerald Logic analyzed Resverlogix's complete clinical dataset including all measurements obtained from each of 798 patients who participated in the Company's Phase 2 clinical trials ASSERT, SUSTAIN and ASSURE.
A five-year international multi-center clinical trial has found that acyclovir, a drug widely used as a safe and effective treatment taken twice daily to suppress herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2), which is the most common cause of genital herpes, does not reduce the risk of HIV transmission when taken by people infected with both HIV and HSV-2.
Although several types of pain assessment tools are available to help clinicians evaluate pain in older people, too often the sole initial emphasis is to gauge pain intensity instead of determining how the pain affects function and the need for treatment, according to research presented at the American Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting.
