Porvair Filtration Group working in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Essex, UK has produced an alternative, high performance Solid Phase Affinity Matrix for Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays. The research at Essex University evaluating the new BioVyon - Protein A material in ChIP assays is published in the May 2011 issue of Analytical Biochemistry.
In response to a rising number of concussions and recent research which shows young athletes with repeated brain injuries are at great risk for future neurological problems, the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association (IATA) and the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN) are offering a wallet-sized card with tips for detecting and monitoring concussions. The complimentary card is an educational tool for parents, coaches and others who work with young athletes to help them identify signs of a concussion.
According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, the nearly $3 billion US market for trauma fixation devices will continue to see rapid growth over the next five years despite the recent economic slowdown. MRG's US Markets for Trauma Devices 2010 report finds that this market will remain highly dynamic over the next five years, with competitors introducing specialized devices in previously underserved segments of the trauma fixation market, fueling market growth.
When schools adopt healthful nutrition policies and practices, kids' diets improve. According to new research led by Michigan State University and published in the current issue of Childhood Obesity, when schools offered snacks in lunchtime a la carte or vending that were mostly or entirely healthful, students responded with improvements in their diets, said Katherine Alaimo, MSU associate professor of food, science and human nutrition.
A new study found that group-based quality improvement sessions help rheumatologists care for rheumatoid arthritis patients with the recommended "treat to target" (TTT) approach to care.
