The use of natural pools - those that do not use chlorine or other chemical disinfection products - has seen an upward trend in recent years. Now, scientists from the University of Barcelona have discovered faecal contamination in some pools due to droppings from birds and other animals.
By hijacking a cancer cell's own metabolism, researchers have found a way to tag and target elusive cancers with small-molecule sugars. This opens treatment pathways for cancers that are not responsive to conventional targeted antibodies, such as triple-negative breast cancer.
Loyola University Health System (LUHS) Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Manager Michelle Ruther, RN, MSN, was recognized this week with a Patriotic Employer Award for her extraordinary support of U.S. Army Reserve Capt. Linda Mounce, who is an LUHS ED nurse.
For older adults, being physically active is an important part of overall good health. In fact, experts say that nine percent of all premature deaths are caused by not getting enough physical activity. Physical activity is known to reduce deaths from heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, and mental illness.
