The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Baqsimi nasal powder, the first glucagon therapy approved for the emergency treatment of severe hypoglycemia that can be administered without an injection.
In one of the largest epilepsy surgery studies ever conducted, Mayo Clinic researchers have found that 81 percent of patients with intractable epilepsy become totally or nearly seizure-free six months following epilepsy surgery. Ten years later, 72 percent remained totally or nearly seizure-free.
Only half of pregnant women worldwide who need a treatment developed over 50 years ago to prevent Rh disease-an often-fatal condition in fetuses and newborns that is now exceedingly rare in the United States and Western Europe-actually receive it, finds a study led by researchers at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Victoria Premier John Brumby's letter to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd asks the federal government to rethink its $50 billion hospitals plan.
