Three children Alejandro Gutierrez, MD, treated for leukemia during his fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital still haunt him more than a decade later.
Infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) can lead to cervical cancer via a preliminary stage - that of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). In Europe 205,000 women every year are affected by this condition, most of them are aged between 25 and 30 years. Since in many cases slight manifestations of the disease (CIN 1) heal spontaneously, mostly no treatment is given but self-healing monitored by means of rigorous and continuous check-ups.
Depression can be a common problem for teens and adolescents, and while many treatments exist, they don't always work for everyone. A new study found that feeling more informed about their health may help teens take better care of themselves, leading to less depressive symptoms.
ERT, announced the appointment of a new Associate Director of Business Development - Japan, Miki Stevens. In this new role, Ms. Stevens will work with ERT's Japanese partner, Site Support Institute (SSI), to facilitate sales activities and to provide enhanced in-country support of Japanese sponsors and clinical trial sites.
The November/December issue of USAID's Frontlines focuses on the agency's 50th anniversary and food security in the Horn of Africa. In his "Insights" column, USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah writes, "As we continue to shape a brighter future for generations to come, we must rededicate ourselves to continually improve the way we work and strengthen our capacity to deliver meaningful results for people around the world and at home."
