Researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have demonstrated that an experimental device can improve blood sugar control in patients who developed diabetes after their pancreas was removed to treat their hyperinsulinism, a genetic disease in which the pancreas produces too much insulin.
A team of researchers, Gloria Petersen, Ph.D., of Mayo Clinic, Barbara Koenig, Ph.D., of the University of California, San Francisco, and Susan Wolf, J.D., of the University of Minnesota, have received a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute to study the ethical and legal implications of providing genetic research results, such as DNA test results, from tissue donated to research bio banks to relatives of the donor.
At a glittering award ceremony at the Westin Grand in Frankfurt last night, Elavon, a leading global payments provider and wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, was announced as winner of the Merchant Acquirer of the Year Award at the Cards & Payments Europe 2011 Conference and Awards Dinner.
Using gene chips to profile tumors before treatment, researchers at Harvard and Yale Universities found markers that identified breast cancer subtypes resistant to Herceptin, the primary treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer. They say this advance could help further refine therapy for the 25 to 30 percent of breast cancer patients with this class of tumor.
The American Association of Professional Drivers (AAOPD) announced today a partnership with Homeland HealthCare Inc., a third party administrator of supplemental insurance plans based in Allen, Texas, and a member of Inc. Magazine's Fastest Growing Private Companies in the US. The announcement commemorates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (September 19 – 25) honoring America's 3.2 million truckers.
