The objective of the survey was two-sided. On one side, we wanted to better understand needs, concerns and attitudes of people with UC in an effort to identify solutions to improve the management of the disease. On the other, we wanted to build a questionnaire that could be used by HCPs to help define patients' needs and concerns.
Increasing numbers of children and adolescents are being given antipsychotic drugs in Germany, as Christian Bachmann and colleagues found out in a study published in the current issue of Deutsches -rzteblatt International (Dtsch Arztebl Int 2014; 111(3): 25 - 40). The authors used routine insurance data of the Barmer GEK statutory health insurance company to analyze antipsychotic prescriptions for this age group from 2005 to 2012.
Occupational sitting is associated with an increased likelihood of obesity, especially among black women, independent of occupational and leisure time physical activity, finds a new study from the School of Medicine and the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.
The simultaneous stimulation of the motor nerves of the brain and limbs (paired associative stimulation) has yielded promising research results. Research conducted at the BioMag Laboratory, operated by the University of Helsinki, Helsinki University Hospital and Aalto University, has previously demonstrated that simultaneous transcranial magnetic stimulation of the brain and electrical stimulation of the limb nerves constitute a useful method of motor rehabilitation in patients suffering from spinal cord injuries.
Healthcare workers in Canadian operating rooms are at a risk of witnessing physical and psychological abuse, according to a study led by a University of Manitoba research team that will be published in the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia.
