Researchers led by Adam T. Hirsh of the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis report that black and white Americans cope with pain differently and that blacks employ pain coping strategies more frequently than whites. The IUPUI review and analysis of 19 studies is the first to examine the entire published literature and quantify the relationship between race and the use of pain-coping strategies.
A clinical trial to test better treatment options for chronic heroin addiction is expected to begin in Vancouver at the end of this year. Led by researchers from Providence Health Care and the University of British Columbia, it's the only clinical trial of its kind in North America.
On August 9, 2010 Massachusetts passed Chapter 283 of the Acts of 2010, adding Safeguards to the Prescription Monitoring Program and furthering Substance Abuse Education and Prevention. Section 11 of the act requires all pharmacies in Massachusetts that dispense schedule II, III, IV, or V prescription drugs to make available lock boxes for sale at each location.
In this study, researchers from the University of Surrey, in collaboration with groups in South Africa, Brazil, Colombia and the USA, examined the sleeping patterns of people from two neighboring communities in Mozambique – the small electrified urban town Milange and the non-electrified rural community Tengua.
