According to a new study there may be an explanation of why some military personnel exposed to blasts have symptoms of brain injury even though their CT and MRI scans look normal.
Requiring a second exam on a person who is considered brain dead may be unnecessary, according to a study on the impact of a second brain death exam on organ donation rates. The research is published in the December 15, 2010, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The Roche assay for the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus detects RNA from the 2009 H1N1 Influenza A virus and provides a rapid means of identification of patients infected with this virus. In order to ensure continued specificity and sensitivity of the Roche's Influenza A/H1N1 assay, Roche performs sequence comparisons with all available 2009 H1N1 Influenza Virus sequences on a regular basis.
Australian researchers have used current hepatitis B virus (HBV) genome sequences to deduce ancient human population movements into Australia, adding weight to the theory that the mainland Aboriginal population separated from other early humans at least 59 thousand years ago and possibly entered the country near the Tiwi Islands.
A new study has found that women who have had a certain type of anorexia nervosa show a change in the activity of a chemical in their brain that is widely associated with anxiety and other affective disorders, for as long as one year after recovery.
