A new study shows that certain genes are turned off early, before clinical signs of the disease appear, in the development of chronic leukemia.
For patients with type 1 diabetes, increased levels of uric acid in the blood may be an early sign of diabetic kidney disease appearing before any significant change in urine albumin level, the standard screening test, reports a study in the May 2008 issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
A gluten-free, casein-free diet may lead to improvements in behavior and physiological symptoms in some children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to researchers at Penn State. The research is the first to use survey data from parents to document the effectiveness of a gluten-free, casein-free diet on children with ASD.
