A study of more than 500 patients admitted to, and discharged from, a big-city medical center suggests that nurse-pharmacist teams trained to track down discrepancies between lists of drugs patients are taking at home and those they are scheduled to take in the hospital might substantially reduce such potentially harmful conflicts.
After three long years of hardship to rebuild a cornerstone of the community, the staff of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center welcomed the arrival of a new MAGNETOM® ESSENZA magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, compliments of Siemens Healthcare. The new MRI scanner premiered today at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark Siemens' donation after a tornado destroyed the hospital in 2007. State and local political dignitaries and community leaders were on hand for the event.
The addition of selumetinib to docetaxel therapy may boost the survival of patients with KRAS-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer, suggest study findings published in The Lancet Oncology.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Strategic Analysis of the World Plant Molecular Farming Market, reveals that the biopharmaceutical market generated revenues of USD 45.0 billion in 2004. It is likely to reach USD 98.2 billion by 2011.
The total cholesterol level among older adults has declined significantly, while there has been little change among younger adults, according to a study in the October 12 issue of JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association.
