Lower transplant rates in ethnic communities may be explained somewhat by a lack of suitable anonymous donors, a problem the medical community has long known and been working to address. Surprisingly, the study found the discrepancy in treatment held true even when the transplant was autologous (e.g. self-donated stem cells were used) or when the cells were donated by a relative, typically a sibling.
Four major health insurers announced plans yesterday to pool their health care claims data into a single database to enable researchers to mine for information about trends in costs, utilization and intensity of care.
HealthPort, a top-25 company in the healthcare information technology industry, today announced that it has added electronic delivery functionality (eDelivery) to its release of information (ROI) process. In compliance with HIPAA mandates under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's (ARRA) HITECH provision, the new eDelivery functionality allows healthcare facilities with HealthPort ROI outsourced or Partner services the ability to quickly and easily fulfill medical record requests for patients who want to receive them electronically.
Ambry Genetics (Ambry), a leader in clinical genetic diagnostics and genetics software solutions, has announced new data affirming the effectiveness of multi-gene panel testing (MGPT) in identifying TP53 gene mutations in people who might otherwise not have been tested. The findings, presented as a poster at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) 2015 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, includes data collected from more than 25,000 individuals having TP53 testing, of which 187 were positive. The tested cohort is the largest to date from a single testing laboratory.
