Shire plc, the global specialty biopharmaceutical company, announces that it has reached an agreement with the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct additional clinical trials to confirm the clinical benefit of ProAmatine (midodrine HCl), a medicine approved in 1996 under Subpart H for the treatment of symptomatic orthostatic hypotension (SOH).
HeartWare International, Inc., a leading innovator of less invasive, miniaturized circulatory support technologies that are revolutionizing the treatment of advanced heart failure, today announced that it has received approval from Health Canada, the country's federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain their health, to market the HeartWare Ventricular Assist System as a bridge to heart transplantation in patients with end-stage heart failure.
Scientists at MIPT have revealed that weak doses of gamma radiation prolong the life of drosophila flies (fruit flies), and that the effect is stronger in females than in males. These findings could reveal the genes that enable the prolongation of life and in the future lead to the creation of a means to prevent aging in humans.
A new Tel Aviv University study finds that eosinophils - white blood cells that may have played an evolutionary role in combating parasites, but which are today responsible for chronic asthma and modern allergies - may be used to eliminate malignant colon cancer cells.
A meta-analysis of previously reported studies by Gregory P. Moore, M.D., F.R.C.P.C., of The Ottawa Hospital, Ontario, Canada, and colleagues examined the rate of moderate to severe and severe neurodevelopmental impairment by gestational age in extremely preterm survivors followed up between ages 4 and 8 years, and determined whether there is a significant difference in impairment rates between the successive weeks of gestation of survivors.
