Statins may help protect stem cell transplant patients from GVHD

Cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins are among the most prescribed medicines in the U.S. Now a new study by researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center indicates that statins may protect stem cell transplant patients from one of the most serious complications of the life-saving cancer therapy: graft-versus-host disease, or GVHD. The findings are reported in the Nov. 4 first edition of the journal Blood.

Cerulean commences dosing in CRLX101-Avastin combination study for metastatic renal cell carcinoma

Cerulean Pharma Inc., a leader in developing dynamically tumor-targeted nanopharmaceuticals, today announced that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase 1b/2a study of its lead product candidate, CRLX101, in combination with Avastin, in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) patients. The company also announced the completion of enrollment of its randomized Phase 2 study in advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
