Study evaluates correlation between EverOn system and detection of patient deterioration in hospitals

EarlySense, developer of the EverOn contact-free, patient supervision system for hospital and post acute care, announced today the results of a multicenter study conducted at several hospitals in the United States and Israel. The data were recently made public by Drs. HGPS is a rare genetic disease that affects one in every 4-8 million births. The disease is caused by a spontaneous mutation in one of the two copies (alleles) of the gene LMNA, which codes for lamin A, a protein important for the integrity and function of the envelope surrounding the cell nucleus. The mutation causes incorrect processing of the messenger RNA for lamin proteins, resulting in the synthesis of an anomalous protein, called progerin.

Obesity's effects on mortality may have been over-estimated

New research shows that obese adults who reach the age of 70 are at no greater risk of dying than their non-obese counterparts, but they do have a much greater probability of spending their remaining years disabled. The data supporting this is reported in the August 2005 issue of The Gerontologist (Vol. 45, No. 4).

Gene expression profile test accurately predicts likelihood of metastasis in thymoma patients

Patients diagnosed with thymoma, a rare cancer of the thymus gland, may be able to avoid certain cancer treatments associated with severe adverse events if the results of a new test reveal they are at low risk of metastasis, according to a study published today in the journal PLOS ONE.
