FimH antagonists can effectively treat UTIs

A potential new approach for treating urinary tract infections (UTIs) - which affect millions of people annually - without traditional antibiotics is being reported in ACS' Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. It involves so-called FimH antagonists, which are non-antibiotic compounds and would not contribute to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance bacteria.

Adding antiplatelet therapy to oral anticoagulants raises risk for TAVR patients with atrial fibrillation

Patients with atrial fibrillation who took oral anticoagulants alone after undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement had a lower rate of bleeding complications without an increased risk of clotting-related complications compared to patients who took antiplatelet medication in addition to oral anticoagulants, in a trial presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together with World Congress of Cardiology.

Black, Hispanic children less likely to get imaging tests compared to White kids

A study led by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine shows that Black children are 18% less likely to get imaging tests as part of their emergency department visit compared to White children.

EGPAF to join prestigious consortium of HIV research organizations

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation today announced that it will join the Population Council and a prestigious consortium of leading HIV research organizations as part of a five-year project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The Supporting Operational AIDS Research project aims to conduct operational HIV and AIDS research, promote utilization and dissemination of data, and build the capacity of local organizations to conduct operational research.
