New treatments for depression on the horizon

New insights into the physiological causes of depression are leading to treatments beyond common antidepressants such as Prozac and Zoloft, researchers are reporting in the in the journal Current Psychiatry.

Sanofi presents positive phase 3 data for GLP-1 receptor for type 2 diabetes

Sanofi US (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY) announced today data that showed lixisenatide, an investigational once-daily prandial glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, decreased HbA1c by reducing PPG (postprandial glucose) daytime exposure when added to standard of care which includes basal insulin with or without oral anti-diabetic agents (OADs). Lixisenatide is for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Patients with Parkinson's may have increased risk of leg motor restlessness

People with Parkinson's disease may be more likely to have a movement disorder called leg motor restlessness, but not true restless legs syndrome as previous studies have suggested, according to a study published in the November 9, 2011, online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

It is when combining and analyzing the results from both methods that we could achieve such an exceptional level of accuracy," explained Sylvie Belleville.
