Spanish scientists, from the Tissue Engineering Research Group, from the Dept. of Histology at the University of Granada, have managed, for the first time, to grow artificial skin from stem cells of umbilical cord.
An online survey conducted by Red Hot Mamas North America, Inc. found that women and their loved ones are significantly affected by very painful bouts of gout, which they consider to be chronic and severe. Respondents indicated that although the debilitating pain associated with the condition affects quality of life, many individuals are prescribed medications meant to control the condition which they are not taking.
Bayer HealthCare announced today that it awarded more than $2.5 million in funding to 19 recipients from 10 countries through its Bayer Hemophilia Awards Program (BHAP). BHAP is the largest awards program of its kind in hemophilia, providing funds that support clinical and basic research, encourage new physicians to enter the field and enable continuing education for caregivers around the world.
A study published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface has been exploring the likelihood that vCJD might be spread via the reuse of surgical instruments, and calls for more data in order to allay fears over the possible transmission of vCJD.
