More Medicare Advantage Plans get top ratings

Privately-run health insurance companies that contract with Medicare are scoring higher in a government-backed quality rating system designed to guide seniors to better medical care choices and service, the Obama administration announced Friday. The so-called "Medicare Advantage Plans" are performing better with more of them hitting four- and five-star ratings on the five-star scale, said U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Mylan prices $300 million aggregate principal amount of Senior Notes due 2020

Mylan Inc. today announced that it priced $300 million aggregate principal amount of Senior Notes due 2020 at an issue price of 105.5% with a coupon of 7.875%, or an effective yield to maturity of 7.087%. The notes are being offered as additional notes under an existing indenture under which Mylan issued $700 million aggregate principal amount of 7.875% Senior Notes due 2020 on May 19, 2010. The notes to be issued in this offering and the previously issued 7.875% Senior Notes due 2020 will be treated as a single class of notes under the indenture.

When researchers at the Buck Institute dialed back activity of a specific mRNA translation factor in adult nematode worms they saw an unexpected genome-wide response that effectively increased activity in specific stress response genes that could help explain why the worms lived 40 percent longer under this condition.
