ENDOMETRIN Vaginal Insert offers effective luteal support in IVF procedures

Ferring Pharmaceuticals Inc. presented study results demonstrating that ENDOMETRIN (progesterone) Vaginal Insert provides effective luteal support compared to intramuscular (IM) progesterone-in-oil (PIO) in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) using gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist.

New combination appears to be effective against cancer stem cells in pancreatic cancer

The new cancer medication sorafenib looks promising. Sorafenib is used for advanced liver and kidney cancer and also appears to be effective against cancer stem cells in pancreatic cancer. The team led by Professor Dr. Ingrid Herr, Head of the Department of Molecular Oncosurgery, a group of the Department of Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital, (Managing Director: Professor Dr. Markus W. B-chler) in cooperation with the German Cancer Research Center, tested the new substance in mice and pancreatic cancer cells.

Eight year old successfully receives double hand transplant

Eight year old Zion Harvey underwent 10 hours 40 minutes of surgery performed by four teams of doctors to receive two new hands. The report of this first successful transplant leading to a fully functioning set of hands for the boy was published yesterday in the journal Lancet Child and Adolescent Health. It has been nearly two years since the successful operation. Zion in 10 years old now and is well.

Testosterone supplementation in older men

Older men with low testosterone levels who received testosterone supplementation increased lean body mass and decreased body fat, but were no stronger and had no improvement in mobility or cognition compared with men who did not use the supplement, according to a study in the January 2 issue of JAMA.
