Clinical Data secures European patent for key multi-drug resistance gene

Clinical Data, Inc. has announced that the European Patent Office has granted Patent No. 1232260 to Bernried, Germany-based Epidauros Biotechnologie AG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Clinical Data, relating to the use of a genetic variant, or biomarker, of the gene MDR1 (also known as ABCB1), which encodes P-glycoprotein (PGP).

Scientists describe development of special sensor that uses maglev for analyzing food, beverages

Scientists are reporting development of a new use for magnetic levitation, or "maglev," the futuristic technology best known for enabling high-speed passenger trains to float above the tracks. In ACS' bi-weekly Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, they describe putting maglev to use in an inexpensive sensor for analyzing food, water, and other beverages.

Nu Skin Enterprises declares quarterly cash dividend of $0.125 per share

Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. today announced that its board of directors declared a 9 percent increase in the quarterly cash dividend to $0.125 per share. Annually, this would increase the dividend to $0.50, up from $0.46 in the prior year. The increase begins in the first quarter and will be paid on March 17, 2010, to shareholders of record on Feb. 26, 2010.

Recall rates of mammography screening may be higher at hospitals

The rate at which women get called back for additional imaging after screening mammography may be higher at hospitals than at community office practices, mostly due to differences among the patients, according to a new study published online in the journal Radiology. The findings highlight the limitations of recall rates as a quality measure for breast cancer screening, the researchers said.
