Food price increases create discontent among the poor

A new report published on Tuesday by Oxfam and the Institute of Development Studies on the impact of rising food prices "shows that the overall impact of the 2011 food price spike seems to be a ratcheting up of inequality, producing a pattern of 'weak losers and strong winners,'" Duncan Green, Oxfam GB's head of research, and Naomi Hossain, a research fellow in the Participation, Power and Social Change team at IDS, write in a post on the Guardian's "Poverty Matters Blog."

Detroit home health agency owner pleads guilty over Medicare fraud

Detroit-area resident Muhammad Shahab pleaded guilty today for his role in organizing a Detroit-area home health care fraud scheme, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer of the Criminal Division; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara L. McQuade; Special Agent in Charge Andrew G. Arena of the FBI's Detroit Field Office; and Special Agent in Charge Lamont Pugh III of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General's (HHS-OIG), Chicago Regional Office.

Additional training may benefit physicians who interpret screening mammograms

A multi-site study led by an Oregon Health & Science University Knight Cancer Institute researcher has identified set criteria that could be used to help identify physicians who might benefit from additional training in interpreting screening mammograms.
