Reckitt Benckiser to acquire Schiff

Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC today announces it has signed a definitive merger agreement with Schiff Nutrition International, Inc. a leading provider of branded vitamins, nutrition supplements and nutrition bars in the United States and elsewhere. The Board of Directors of Schiff has approved the transaction and will recommend that its stockholders tender their shares into Reckitt Benckiser's previously announced cash tender offer of $42.00 per share, valuing Schiff at $1.4 billion.

Columbia Laboratories announces repurchase of 3.3 million common stock

Columbia Laboratories, Inc. has repurchased 3,333,330 shares of its Common Stock, par value $0.01 per share, from investment funds for which Perry Corp. or an affiliate acts as investment advisor and/or general partner at $0.90 per share for an aggregate total purchase price of approximately $3 million. This transaction reduces the total issued and outstanding shares of Common Stock by about 4% from approximately 84.1 million to 80.8 million. This transaction also reduces the Company's previously forecast 2010 year-end cash balance to approximately $20 million.

REG3A molecule may lead to new treatments for psoriasis, wound-healing

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder in which skin cells proliferate out of control. For some hard-to-heal wounds, the problem is just the opposite: Restorative skin cells don't grow well or fast enough. In a paper published in the June 21, 2012 issue of Immunity, researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine describe a molecule that may lead to new treatments for both problems.

Johns Hopkins surgeons perform first-ever living donor HIV-to-HIV kidney transplant

For the first time, a person living with HIV has donated a kidney to a transplant recipient also living with HIV. A multidisciplinary team from Johns Hopkins Medicine completed the living donor HIV-to-HIV kidney transplant on Mar. 25. The doctors say both the donor and the recipient are doing well.
