BioSante announces $15 million registered direct offering

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has received commitments from several institutional investors to purchase $15 million of securities in a registered direct offering. The investors are Deerfield Management Company and other institutional investors. BioSante expects to receive net proceeds of approximately $14.2 million after deducting placement agent fees and other offering expenses.

The Department of Defense today issued an interim final rule designating pharmacies as providers for H1N1, seasonal flu and pneumonia vaccinations under its TRICARE program.

Veterans who died from drug overdoses also prescribed benzodiazepines for pain

In a recent study, nearly half of all veterans who died from drug overdoses while prescribed opioids for pain were also receiving benzodiazepines, or benzos, which are common medications for the treatment of anxiety, insomnia and alcohol withdrawal. Veterans prescribed higher doses of benzodiazepines while concurrently receiving opioids were at greater risk of overdose death than those on lower doses of benzodiazepines.
