Pharmasset reports positive data from PSI-7977 and PSI-938 HCV clinical programs

Pharmasset, Inc., announced today positive data from interim analyses of two of its clinical programs: the HCV genotype 2 or 3 (GT2/3) arm of the PSI-7977 Phase 2b trial and the 14 day PSI-938 monotherapy cohort of the dual nucleotide study.

Patheon declares third quarter 2009 results

Patheon (TSX: PTI) today announced results for the third quarter and nine months ended July 31, 2009. Total revenues for the third quarter were $164.4 million or 15.7% lower than the same period last year. AstraZeneca and Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, N.J., today announced detailed results from the Phase III SOLO-1 trial testing LYNPARZA (olaparib) 300 mg tablets twice-daily as a maintenance treatment for patients with newly diagnosed advanced BRCA-mutated ovarian cancer who were in complete or partial response following 1st-line standard platinum-based chemotherapy.

Chemists build light-controlled neural inhibitor

The notion of a pain switch is an alluring idea, but is it realistic? Well, chemists at LMU Munich, in collaboration with colleagues in Berkeley and Bordeaux, have now shown in laboratory experiments that it is possible to inhibit the activity of pain-sensitive neurons using an agent that acts as a photosensitive switch. For the LMU researchers, the method primarily represents a valuable tool for probing the neurobiology of pain.
