Berwick's exit interview with NY Times: 'I came with an agenda' for improvement

The official in charge of Medicare and Medicaid for the last 17 months says that 20 percent to 30 percent of health spending is "waste" that yields no benefit to patients, and that some of the needless spending is a result of onerous, archaic regulations enforced by his agency. The official, Dr. Donald M. Berwick, listed five reasons for what he described as the "extremely high level of waste." They are overtreatment of patients, the failure to coordinate care, the administrative complexity of the health care system, burdensome rules and fraud.

Researchers identify cellular mechanism associated with tinnitus

Researchers in the University of Leicester's Department of Cell Physiology and Pharmacology have identified a cellular mechanism that could underlie the development of tinnitus following exposure to loud noises. The discovery could lead to novel tinnitus treatments, and investigations into potential drugs to prevent tinnitus are currently underway.

Health Union publishes RA in America 2013 survey results

Health Union, LLC announced today that it has published detailed results from the "RA in America 2013" survey on its newly launched website http://RheumatoidArthritis.Net. The survey covered a broad array of topics impacting people with Rheumatoid Arthritis (also called RA), and was taken by 1,055 respondents making it one of the largest of its kind conducted with RA patients in the United States.

New in vitro study results of Hydrofiber dressing to be presented at SAWC/WHS 2010

ConvaTec, a world-leading developer and marketer of innovative medical technologies for community and hospital care, today announced new in vitro study results in which a Hydrofiber dressing containing ionic silver was observed to conform more closely to a porcine tissue surface in a shallow wound model than did certain silver-containing foam dressings following hydration.
