New trial aims to prolong remission for pediatric leukemia patients treated with T-cell immunotherapy

After phase 1 results of Seattle Children's Pediatric Leukemia Adoptive Therapy trial have shown T-cell immunotherapy to be effective in getting 93 percent of patients with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia into complete initial remission, researchers have now opened a first-in-human clinical trial aimed at reducing the rate of relapse after the therapy, which is about 50 percent.

Cancer patients more likely to die from heart disease, stroke, study found

Heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death worldwide. Now, a team of researchers found that cancer-stricken patients are at a higher risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases (CVD). More than one in ten cancer patients don't die from cancer itself, rather from heart and blood vessel conditions.

Female smokers at greater risk of heart attacks, finds study

According to a large population study from the United Kingdom, women who smoke or those who have high blood pressure or diabetes are at a greater risk of heart attacks than men with same risks. The study results were published in the latest issue of the journal British Medical Journal.
