AstraZeneca granted preliminary injunction against Apotex in Pulmicort Respules patent litigation

On May 20, 2009, the US District Court for the District of New Jersey granted the request of AstraZeneca for an injunction barring Apotex (Apotex, Inc. and Apotex Corp.) from launching a generic version of AstraZeneca's Pulmicort Respules (budesonide inhalation suspension) in the US. No trial date for the patent litigation has been set.

Too much ‘tele' raises risk of diabetes, heart disease … and reality TV!

Researchers in a new study say prolonged TV watching is linked to an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. The study found that every additional two hours spent in front of the TV each day raises the diabetes risk by a fifth and heart disease risk by 15%. New video article describes novel procedure that can monitor brain function

A new video article in JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments, describes a novel procedure to monitor brain function and aid in functional mapping of patients with diseases such as epilepsy. This procedure illustrates the use of pre-placed electrodes for cortical mapping in the brains of patients who are undergoing surgery to minimize the frequency of seizures. This technique, while invasive, provides real-time analysis of brain function at a much higher resolution than current technologies.
