Bavarian Nordic to deliver IMVAMUNE(R) vaccines

Bavarian Nordic A/S (OMX: BAVA) announced today that it has signed a contract with the military of an undisclosed EU country for the delivery of a small order for IMVAMUNE(R). The vaccines will be delivered in 2009. The size and value of the contract is undisclosed.

Study: High bilirubin levels within normal range linked with reduced risk of respiratory diseases

An analysis of data including more than 500,000 adults indicates that levels in the blood of bilirubin in the normal range but relatively higher were associated with a reduced risk of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and all-cause death, according to a study in the February 16 issue of JAMA.

KRAS gene mutation recruits second player to trigger pancreatic cancer

More than a cancer-causing gene is needed to trigger pancreatic cancer, a study led by Mayo Clinic has found. A second factor creates a "perfect storm" that allows tumors to form, the researchers say. The study, published in the Sept. 10 issue of Cancer Cell, overturns the current belief that a mutation in the KRAS oncogene is enough to initiate pancreatic cancer and unrestrained cell growth.
